In a previous life, I was a bartender. Through my younger and more vulnerable days in my mid-to-late twenties, I’d develop and design themed menus for holidays and special events, write instructional cocktail manuals for bartenders, appear on regional morning television shows, and make about a dozen “custom” cocktails a night for anybody willing to take some time to talk to me about what they liked.
I loved it, but it’s probably going to be a long time before I’m having relaxed, candid conversations with bar patrons. So I’m writing about some of my favorite flavors, and including recipes for cocktails and cocktail components alongside them.
